Firebirds Esports Wraps Regular Season, Eyes Mario Kart Playoffs
Week 7 marked the final stretch of the regular season for Kirtland’s esports athletes. With fierce competition in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, our Firebirds battled hard, earning one last shot at postseason glory.
The regular season has officially wrapped up for our Firebirds esports team, and Week 7 brought the final matchups for both Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. While not everyone made the playoff cut, our players showed determination and grit all season long.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (SSBU)
In the final week of SSBU action:
-
Jeremiah Holberton faced off against Northwest Florida State College, falling in a hard-fought 1-4 match.
-
Joseph Michalko went up against Mott Community College and also came up short, losing 1-4.
With the top four players in each region advancing to the playoffs, Joseph narrowly missed the cut in 5th place, while Jeremiah finished in 7th. The official playoff bracket has not been posted yet, so there's still a slim chance for a shift in standings.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Mario Kart also saw some intense final matchups:
-
Airielle Voorhees had a bye week to close out her season.
-
Utah Gusa took on Heartland Community College in a close series but ultimately fell 2-4.
-
Brianna Autry faced Glen Oaks Community College and was defeated 0-4.
The top eight advanced to the playoffs in this division. Brianna made the cut, securing a playoff spot, while Utah just missed out.
The Mario Kart playoffs are double elimination, with the first three rounds scheduled for April 17 at 6:00 PM, 7:00 PM, and 8:00 PM.
