Firebirds Soar at Northern Conference Championship

The 2024 season has been a memorable one for the Firebirds, with both the men's and women's teams
showcasing impressive talent and determination. At the Northern Conference Championship, the
Firebirds’ performance was highlighted by several standout athletes who helped propel their team to
one of the best finishes in recent history.

On the men’s side, Utah Gusa was a key contributor, leading the Firebirds to the 2024 Northern
Conference Championship with his remarkable 3rd-place finish. His ability to consistently compete at a
high level has earned him recognition not only within his team but across the conference as well. His
top-three finish was a pivotal moment that helped position the Firebirds as one of the premier teams in
the Northern Conference this season.

Close behind Gusa was Dale Gust, who clinched an impressive 5th-place finish. Gust’s tenacity and skill
contributed significantly to the Firebirds’ overall success, adding another layer of depth to their already
strong lineup. Micah Bragg rounded out the Firebirds’ top performers, securing 7th place in the championship race.
Bragg’s ability to compete alongside some of the best athletes in the conference speaks volumes about
his talent and work ethic. His 7th place finish, combined with the performances of Gusa and Gust,
ensured that the Firebirds had three athletes finish within the top 10—a remarkable achievement for
any team. Together, Gusa, Gust, and Bragg were all named to the All-Conference team for 2024, a fitting

The women’s team also made waves in the Northern Conference Championship, finishing a strong 4th
place overall. Leading the charge for the Lady Firebirds was Joey Janise, who delivered an outstanding
6th place finish. Her leadership and determination were key factors in the Lady Firebirds' success, and
her 6th-place finish earned her a well-deserved spot on the 2024 All-Conference team.
